Ecole Hôtelière Internationale Savoie - Léman

Description
A vital institution and the pride of Thonon-les-Bains, the Ecole Hôtelière Internationale Savoie - Léman trains, each year, and for over 100 years, the professionals of the hotel and catering industry of tomorrow.
This hotel education institution, recognized by the profession as one of the most renowned, is the oldest public hotel school in France.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the town of Thonon les Bains, very popular for its thermal baths by an international clientele of spa guests, had many good-class hotels and even a palace. The municipality decided to create a hotel section in the college of the city (now Collège Jean-Jacques Rousseau), in order to train qualified staff for these establishments. Thus, under the impetus of the Senator of Haute-Savoie Jules Mercier and by the decree of April 2, 1912, the first public and free hotel school in France was born.
The school grew rapidly, and in 1927 the city called upon the architect Louis Moynat to design a specially adapted building. The new building – in the functionalist architectural style – was inaugurated in 1935, at the corner of Carnot and Corniche boulevards. This new Ecole Hôtelière de la Savoie et du Léman was equipped with a school and a 3-star hotel open to an outside clientele.
During the dark period of the war, the school-hotel was occupied in 1944 by the militia; a wall of the shot is a reminder of this painful moment. It only returned to its vocation after the war and underwent successive transformations: the establishment of the boarding school (today more than 250 interns) and a major renovation of the Lycée and the hotel between 2003 and 2007.
The Hotel d’Application Savoie Léman was converted into a municipal administration in 1976 to be able to operate the hotel during the school holidays. In 1991, the Rhône-Alpes Region became the owner and the National Education was the manager, so the hotel was closed during the school holidays.
Our school is a veritable lycée des Métiers that educates students in the hotel-restaurant sector from the CAP to the professional baccalaureate through professional, technological and BTS baccalaureate.
The Lycée Savoie Léman has 528 students in 2011-2012. It has two restaurants open to the public: a brasserie and a gourmet restaurant, as well as a three-star hotel with 32 rooms, which allows students to stay close to the clientele on a daily basis.
